Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Permit Ranger. By signing in and using the service you agree to them. They are written in plain language on purpose; if anything is unclear, ask.
What Permit Ranger is
Permit Ranger watches wilderness-permit availability on recreation.gov and sends you a push notification when a pass you are watching opens on one of your dates. That is all it does. It is an alerting tool, not a booking service, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to recreation.gov or any government agency.
Accounts
You create your own account by signing up with your name, email address, and a password. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity that happens under your account. The operator may suspend or remove accounts that abuse the service.
The service never books for you
Permit Ranger never reserves, holds, or purchases permits on your behalf and never interacts with your recreation.gov account. When you get an alert, booking is entirely up to you, on recreation.gov, under their terms. Availability can disappear in seconds; receiving an alert is not a guarantee that a permit is still available when you click through.
Alerts are best-effort
The service polls public availability data on a schedule and depends on recreation.gov and ntfy.sh, both outside our control. Alerts can be delayed, missed, or occasionally wrong when upstream data changes shape or becomes unavailable. Do not rely on Permit Ranger as your only way to get a permit for a trip that matters to you.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service to violate recreation.gov's terms of use or any law.
- Attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
- Probe, overload, or disrupt the service.
- Resell access to the service or its alerts.
Subscription, billing, and cancellation
Permit Ranger is a paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly through Stripe, our payment processor. Current prices are shown on the pricing page before you subscribe. New subscribers may receive a free trial; the trial length and whether it applies are shown at checkout, and you will not be charged until the trial ends. Prices may change; any change will be shown on the pricing page and will apply from your next billing period.
You can cancel at any time through the Stripe billing portal, reachable from your account. Cancellation stops future charges; your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. If a payment fails, Stripe retries the card for a grace period during which your access continues; if payment is not recovered, access is suspended until billing is resolved. Public pages of the site remain free to browse without a subscription.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Permit Ranger and its operator are not liable for any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service, including missed permits, missed trips, or reliance on delayed or incorrect alerts.
Termination
You can stop using the service at any time and can request account deletion through the contact form at /contact. The administrator may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new last-updated date. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
