SMS Consent

This page describes how Permit Ranger collects consent for SMS text-message alerts, what messages you will receive, and how to stop them. SMS alerts are optional; the service works fully without them.
What Permit Ranger SMS alerts are
Permit Ranger watches wilderness-permit availability on recreation.gov. If you enable SMS alerts, you will receive text messages when a permit you are watching opens on one of your dates, plus optional reminders about upcoming permit releases (quota drops) and lottery deadlines for the permit areas you follow. These are account-service notifications you asked for; Permit Ranger does not send marketing or promotional texts.
How you opt in
You opt in voluntarily, and only from inside your own account:
- Sign in to your Permit Ranger account and open the Settings page.
- Enter your mobile phone number and turn on SMS alerts.
- That action is your consent to receive the alert messages described on this page at the number you provided.
No other collection
Phone numbers are never collected any other way. There is no public signup form for SMS, no numbers are imported from third-party lists, no numbers are purchased or rented, and consent is never shared with or sold to anyone else. Only the account holder can add or change the number on their account.
Message frequency
Message frequency varies with how many passes and trips you watch and how often availability changes. Alerts are sent only during the active hours you set in Settings (default 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM Pacific). Message and data rates may apply.
How to opt out
You can stop SMS alerts at any time, in either of two ways:
- Reply STOP to any message. You will receive one final confirmation text and nothing further.
- Turn off SMS alerts (or remove your phone number) in your account Settings.

Privacy and terms
